Glucosamine takers had fewer heart events, but nobody assigned it
Nearly half a million UK adults said whether they took glucosamine, then were followed about seven years. Takers had 15% fewer cardiovascular events. This compares people, not treatments.
What the study found
People who chose glucosamine had fewer heart events over seven years
Nearly half a million UK adults said at enrolment whether they regularly took glucosamine, then were followed about seven years. Those who did had 15% fewer cardiovascular events and 22% fewer cardiovascular deaths. Nobody was assigned to take it; this compares people, not treatments.
The caveat · Dose and form never recorded
People who choose supplements differ from people who do not in ways no adjustment removes, and a modest reduction turning up in every outcome at once is what that difference usually produces. Preparation and amount went unrecorded. No randomised trial has tested glucosamine against heart outcomes.
