For two years the FDA held NMN outside the supplement rules

NMN notifications stopped for 25 months while the agency held it excluded from the supplement definition, then resumed in November 2025 once that was reversed.

What the study found

NMN spent two years outside the US supplement definition

Nicotinamide riboside has been notified to the US Food and Drug Administration as a new dietary ingredient since 2015. Nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN) notifications stopped for 25 months from October 2023, while the agency held it outside the supplement definition, until November 2025.

The caveat · Never says if the agency objected

The notification list records that the FDA responded to each submission on a given date. It does not say whether the response objected, and the agency does not approve dietary ingredients in any case. The submission and response dates come straight from the FDA's own published list; the date of the reversal itself comes from legal and trade reporting, because the agency's letter could not be retrieved.
