Long-term, high-dose oregano changed gut gene activity in chickens
Chickens fed oregano as 2% of their feed throughout rearing showed changed activity in gut genes linked to hormones and drug handling. No illness was linked to it.
What the study found
Chickens fed oregano through rearing showed altered gut gene activity
Chickens given feed that was 2% oregano across a whole production cycle showed changed activity in gut genes tied to hormone signalling and drug handling, and in gene groups used to flag toxicity. It marks a question for long-term use, not a harm seen in any bird or person.
The caveat · Far above any capsule dose
The birds ate oregano as 2% of their feed without a break, far more and for far longer than a person on capsules. A change in gene activity is not an illness, and no illness was linked to it in the chickens.
