What the study found

The sports nutrition consensus ranks daily total above timing

The International Society of Sports Nutrition's position stand puts the daily target for active people at 1.4 to 2.0 g per kg of body weight, and per-meal doses near 0.25 g per kg, roughly 20 to 40 g. On timing it is explicit: the daily total matters more than when the protein lands.

The caveat · Expert judgement, not a measurement

A position stand grades existing literature and computes no pooled estimate of its own, so these ranges are considered judgements rather than measurements. The society receives industry support and several authors declare commercial ties to supplement companies, which is worth weighing against recommendations that favour supplementing. It was published in 2017, before the large-bolus work and before trials that compared timings head to head.
