In one trial, new autoimmune disease fell by about a fifth
Over five years, 123 people on vitamin D3 developed a confirmed autoimmune condition against 155 on placebo. The p value lands exactly on 0.05.
What the study found
Five years of vitamin D3 cut new autoimmune disease by a fifth
In the same trial that found nothing for cancer, heart disease, fractures or depression, 123 people on vitamin D3 developed a confirmed autoimmune condition against 155 on placebo, a 22 percent reduction. It is the one clearly positive disease result that trial produced.
The caveat · Lands exactly on the chance line
The p value lands exactly on 0.05 and the interval nearly touches no effect, which makes this a fragile positive rather than a settled one. The count pools rheumatoid arthritis, polymyalgia rheumatica, autoimmune thyroid disease and psoriasis together and tests none of them individually. Participants averaged 67 years old.
