Does oil of oregano kill parasites? One test of 14, with no comparison

In the only human test, gut parasites cleared in most of 14 adults after six weeks of oregano oil, but nobody went without it, so it cannot show the oil did it. No controlled trial has followed.

Oil of Oregano

Oil of oregano is marketed as a remedy that kills gut parasites. In the only human test, adults with parasites confirmed in stool swallowed oregano oil for six weeks, and Blastocystis cleared in 8 of 11. Nobody went untreated, parasites can come and go in stool on their own, and no trial with a placebo group has followed in 25 years. The oregano shown killing Giardia in a lab dish was a different plant, Mexican oregano. The one human test points one way without proving it.
