None of the nine pregnancy reviews reached moderate confidence
An umbrella review graded the nine reviews on paracetamol in pregnancy and neurodevelopment: seven critically low, two low, none moderate or high. They overlap by 23%.
What the study found
Seven of the nine reviews rated critically low confidence
An umbrella review graded the review literature on paracetamol in pregnancy and neurodevelopment rather than re-pooling it. The remaining two were rated low, and none reached moderate or high. They overlap by 23%, so nine reviews are largely re-reading the same primary studies.
The caveat · Grades reviews, adds no new data
An umbrella review inherits every weakness of what it reviews and adds no data of its own, so it can say the evidence base is poor without settling the question underneath it. Failing to demonstrate a link is not the same as demonstrating there is none, and the authors word their conclusion as the former. It covers autism and attention-deficit disorder only. Its search closed in September 2025, before the sibling-matched work published in 2026.
