Ordinary pressure raised the morning surge; burnout went with less

In the pooled research, ordinary work and life pressure went with a bigger cortisol surge in the 30 to 45 minutes after waking. Exhaustion and burnout went with a smaller one.

What the study found

Work stress lifts the morning spike; burnout flattens it

Two kinds of stress move the same measurement in opposite directions. Across the pooled research, ordinary work and life pressure went with a bigger cortisol surge in the 30 to 45 minutes after waking, while exhaustion and burnout went with a smaller one.

The caveat · Snapshots, not people followed

Most of the pooled studies took a single snapshot rather than following anyone, so nothing here shows stress moving the surge. The stress measures themselves are a mixed bag, from job strain to burnout, and they do not all point the same way, which is the finding rather than a flaw in it.
