Ovulation happened about twice as often on inositol as on placebo
Pooling ten randomised trials in polycystic ovary syndrome, ovulation happened 2.3 times as often on inositol as on placebo. Neither pooling reported a live birth.
What the study found
Inositol roughly doubled the ovulation rate against placebo
Pooling ten randomised trials in polycystic ovary syndrome, or PCOS, ovulation happened 2.3 times as often on inositol as on placebo, and menstrual cycles came almost seven times more often. A separate pooling of 26 trials found a regular cycle 1.79 times more likely.
The caveat · Ovulation, not pregnancy or birth
Ovulation and a regular cycle are steps toward pregnancy, not pregnancy. The ovulation pooling was highly inconsistent between trials, and the whole analysis rests on ten small trials totalling 601 women. Neither pooling reported a live birth.
