Sildenafil worked for men with diabetes, just less often
In a 268-man trial, 61% of men with diabetes managed at least one successful attempt against 22% on placebo. Pooled trials elsewhere put the same measure at 83%.
What the study found
Men with diabetes reached 61% success, against 83% elsewhere
In a 268-man trial, 61% of men with diabetes managed at least one successful attempt on sildenafil, against 22% on placebo. Pooled trials in men without diabetes put the same measure at 83% against 45%. Both arms sit lower in diabetes, which is what worse blood supply looks like.
The caveat · Two separate trials, not one test
The two figures come from separate trials rather than one comparison, so the size of the gap is indicative rather than measured. Men in the diabetes trial had lived with it twelve years on average, and response is not broken down by how much nerve or vessel damage they had.
