What the study found

10 mg of isoflavones a day, a quarter fewer recurrences

Three cohorts of 9,514 breast cancer survivors, two American and one Chinese, were followed for an average of 7.4 years. Recurrence risk was 25 percent lower among those reaching that intake after diagnosis, and the direction held in both countries despite very different amounts.

The caveat · Soy eaters differ in diet and weight

Diet was self-reported, and soy eaters may differ from others in weight, diet quality and health behaviour that no adjustment removes. Only recurrence reached significance; both death-rate estimates crossed the line of no effect. Diagnoses ran from 1991 to 2006.
