For most mental health conditions, CBD has barely been tested

Eighty-three studies across depression, anxiety, ADHD, Tourette syndrome, post-traumatic stress and psychosis found scarce evidence of benefit. Very few tested cannabidiol on its own.

What the study found

Across six mental disorders, cannabinoids showed scarce benefit

Eighty-three studies covering depression, anxiety, ADHD, Tourette syndrome, post-traumatic stress and psychosis found scarce evidence of benefit in any of them. Very few tested pharmaceutical cannabidiol on its own. That is an absence of trials, not a demonstrated absence of effect.

The caveat · Search ended April 2018

The search closed in April 2018, before several cannabidiol-specific trials were published. The one anxiety signal the review did find came from pharmaceutical THC, in people whose main problem was chronic pain or multiple sclerosis, and was graded very low quality.
